The Eyes Of The Gods

The title says it all. One Goddess in particular comes to mind...VENUS.. The goddess of love. For centuries big, wide, innocent, childlike eyes have been seen asa doting image of being "lovestruck". Sometime ago lens manufacturer Marietta Vision developed a lens called Venus. These lenses aimed at giving "Goddess like eyes" are made with the intention of not only creating the illusion of a different eye color. They are made with the intent of creating big, doey, innocent, childlike, "lovestruck" eyes. These can be a breath of fresh air in a lens market where the main option for this effect is circle lenses. Which while they have their appeal don't necessarily create the most desired results. Venus lenses come in six different colors: Slate Grey, Pacific Blue, Ice Blue, Leaf Green, Violet, and Amber. I have owned every shade with the exception of Violet and Pacific Blue. I currently however only have 3 shades in my collection....Slate Grey, Ice Blue and Amber.

Amber is by far the most realistic shade of Amber I've ever seen in a lens. Unlike most Amber/Honey/Hazel lenses which simply look orange these actually look Amber. They also seem to blend wonderfully with a multitude of eye colors. I will be posting close up pictures of Amber soon. The lenses are reasonably priced at most online vendors. I personally recommend www.1-Save-On-Lens.com and http://Color-My-Eyes.com The latter actually sells them very cheap by the pair reguardless of the rx for each eye. They are sold as 3 month replacement lenses but can be worn for 12 months if cared for and worn responsibly. Unlike many circle lenses they are also readily available in corrective powers and ship quickly. Since they're made in the US they're also readily available in the US and Canada. (If you live in Canada it will cost more per lens but I would recommend www.1-Save-On-Lens.com as they have a Canadian branch and warehouse. You'll save on shipping and won't have to wait for them to be processed through customs). Sorry for the blah post. I will be doing another review soon on some recently discontinued disposable lenses. Stay tuned!

I love the warm tone you get from the ambers..you are the main reason I purchased these lenses. They are absolutely beautiful. I know I won't get the same effect as you as your eyes are much lighter than mine...but that didn't stop me! You achieve some of the best results with lenses and your natural eye colour is also beautiful. Those grays and blues are totally melting into your eyes...:)

I do love the Ambers the most from their line. You gotta admit they seem to look great on everyone! A little different but great all the same. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

Hi! Recently found your blog through Soompi and I'm so glad that I did. You cover a lot of lenses that aren't as common and now I'm interested in getting a pair of Venus Ambers too! Thank you for your wonderful review and I remember you used to post in the Soompi circle lens thread!

Glad you found it! I say go for it! They're realitivly inexpensive and when cared for properly can last for a year. They also look great and seem to work well on everyone reguardless of their eye color or features. I think you would love the effect of Amber but I also feel Slate Grey would work well with your features as well.

Hello! Your blog is great I found it while searching for venus contact lenses. I like a lot how the ambers look on you. Actually I am looking for a similar color hazel/honey/amber and I can't find any natural looking brand that has these colors. I am currently wearing freshlook pure hazel I ordered ADORE BITONE the hazel and the honey ones but I was very disapointed because the change was very subtle :( so I kept on wearing freshlook pure hazel but they are not very natural looking, I have to wear black eyeliner to make them look less fake. I am thnking of ordering VENUS AMBER contacts but doesn't the thick limbal ring make them look fake? I came across a picture of you wearing EUROPA HAZEL contact lenses and I liked them too so which ones do you recommend VENUS or EUROPA for natural looking yet noticeable result?

Gregg said...

Personally I prefer the Venus. They're a bi tone lens so they blend better. In person they look extremly natural and the limbal ring is perfect. Keep in mind this is just based on my personal preference. I naturally have small eyes and prefer to opt for lenses with defined limbal rings to give them a larger, wider appearence.

Thank you for your answers you are being helpful a lot for many people your blog is really amazing. Since you have tried many pairs of lenses I wanted to ask you which honey/hazel/amber contacts you recommend I mean the ones which give a natural noticieable look?

Gregg said...

It really depends on the overall look you wish to achieve and your base eye color/features. I would suggest Venus Amber for a more golden amber/honey eye. I suggest Adore BiTone Yellow for a more green/hazel shade. If your eye color is a more amber/honey/light brown shade you could simply use FreshLook Colors Green.

Definitely the eyes of the Gods!!! The ice blue is really tempting me!! You look really great wearing them. Your eyes look so fresh and innocent!! Actually all of the colors make your eyes look big, fresh and innocent! ♥ I have to purchase these lenses too! Thank you for your very informative and helpful reviews.

You're more than welcome! And thank you for the feedback! I personally like natural and vibrant, but I also love to have whatever lens I'm wearing give my eyes a larger appearence.

Hey Gregg!

I have dark, dark eyes naturally and I'm looking for something hazel-ish. I tried Freshlook Colorblends in Pure Hazel and they look AWFUL, so fake. Do you recommend Venus?

Taylor said...

Sorry, gregg. I meant do you recommend AMBER ** BY VENUS.

Gregg said...

I do recommend them for a nice, natural, appearence. However if you want an actual hazel (amber/honey center, green color I do recommend these as I have yet to see them look bad on anyone, however for an actual Hazel color, I recommend Adore Bi Tone Yellow.

Hello Greg,
I ordered Venus amber contact lenses I liked them a lot but one lens is itching a little bit I contacted the web site where I got them they asked some info about my order then I didin't get any response.

Anyways, my sister says that they look very fake because my eyes are small and that they made them look too big and the pupil hole is too large. I liked them but after her comments I feel disapponted I thought maybe she thinks they look fake because she already knows that I m wearing contact lenses.

I would like to know what are the impressions of people who saw you wearing Venus amber contact lenses.

Eleganzia:As far as the itching it could be a defective lens. Occasionally that happens with any brand. As far as their fit, I naturally have smaller eyes myself as well as a small basecurve (8.3 base curve and less than 13.0 diameter), so I know they can be over enlarging on some. That being said they are actually meant to give you the appearnce of bigger, brighter eyes. I have seen them in person and online on others with varying eye colors and features and Amber in particular has looked great on everyone. It could be the illusion of very big, wide eyed iris' that is throwing your sister off, or it could be because she knows your natural eye color and has possibly seen you in lenses that to her suit you better. Pretty much anyone who knows you wear lenses and knows your natural eye color (such as your family) will think they are not natural because they subconsiously associate you with your natural eye color. I find how strangers/people you know but aren't necessarily close to give more honest reactions letting you know if they are natural or not.

Omg!The amber look phenomenal on you?Do u have naturally dark eyes?Mine are dark brown, almost close to black and would you think this will show up?Ive ordered Adore Bi tone Grey, I wanted to order yellow but reluctant since I think it will show up greenish on me..If i wanted a real hazel look, which shud i gofer?Adore Yellow or Venus Amber?

Gregg said...

Thank you. My eyes aren't dark. They are more on the honey/amber lighter spectrum of the brown shades. They are actually very similar in color to the Venus Amber lens. They will show up on even the darkest eyes however as they are very opaque lenses. Of these and the Adore Bi Tones, if you want a more vibrant, noticeable, dramatic change in your color and have dark brown eyes I highly recommend the Venus in Amber.

Ive ordered Bi tone Grey and to my horror, its extremely dramatic and fake looking.Im truly dissapointed a sI thought the Bi tone would be subtle on dark eyes.I didnt expect this, and now Im looking forward to try hazel/brown lens.Have u tried Bella contacts from mariette vision?Im leabing towards venus amber and gave up on Bi tone yellow as i found a pic that itwont showon dark eyes at all.I would like you to have a look at my pics wt bi tone grey and suggest something subtle yet noticeable?Where can i send>Thanks in advance.

Gregg said...

In general the Bi Tone line by Adore is subtle. That being said many european companies (such as Adore/Soleko) use almost pure white pigment for their grey lenses, where as other companies use actual grey, or grey/blue mixture to create the shade. Despite the natural pattern apure white pigmentation will create a very dramatic change on a naturally dark eye.Personally I have not tried the Bella line by Marietta Vision. I have only tried their Pacifica, Europa, and Venus lines. Pacifica is actually imho (based on my personal experience) the most Natural line and one of the most natural lenses they make. Particularly their Honey and Grey shades. Unfortunatly they only seem to come in plano. If you don't require an RX I would actually recommend them. As for where you could send a picture I have an email link for this blog Reflectionsofgregg@gmail.com you could send it to.
